★ Our Story ★

One family, since 1968.

It started with one dining room in Storm Lake and a plate of broasted chicken. Fifty-some years later, we set sixteen tables across twelve hometowns—same family, same handshake, same idea of what breakfast, lunch, and dinner should be.

Family Table began in 1968, when The Villager opened in Storm Lake serving burgers, broasted chicken & homemade onion rings. Lakeshore Cafe opened in 1978 down by the lake serving many different breakfast dishes.

In 1985, the corporation joined both restaurant concepts together and started the Family Table in Eagle Grove. The group grew the way small towns do — one at a time — adding Cherokee and Spencer through the early 1990s; Pocahontas, Sioux Center and Le Mars between 2001 and 2004; and Ida Grove, Humboldt and Emmetsburg from 2006 to 2008. In 2009 the group started a new concept (bar & grill) by buying the Gasthaus Bar & Grille in Cherokee. After this new concept was developed they started to revamp their own concept by changing some Family Table Restaurants into Bars & Grills. Starting in 2010 with Humboldt changing to Miller’s Landing; Sheldon changing to Langer’s Bar & Grill / Cook’s Cafe; and Sioux Center changing to Sioux County Livestock Company. In 2013 they changed Ida Grove to Zimmy’s Bar & Grille. In 2014 they started Zimmy’s Bar & Grille in Storm Lake in the same building as Lakeshore Family Restaurant. Finally in 2016 they changed Algona to Miller’s Sports Bar & Grill. All these new concepts have a full bar and specialize in gourmet burgers, hand-cut steaks & Prime Rib!!

Today the Family Table Group is a family-owned company of sixteen restaurants across twelve northwest- and north-central-Iowa towns — different rooms, one table — serving home-style cooking from breakfast through hand-cut steaks.
